Larry Chao, Managing Director
|
Larry Chao is an Asian-American - born, raised and educated in the U.S. His ancestry is half-Japanese and half-Chinese.
Larry Chao has a distinguished background in psychology and business from Yale University and strategy/change consulting experience with McKinsey & Company and Accenture.
Over the past 20 years, Larry has assisted over 50 multinational clients on virtually every continent achieve practical organization change. His projects have included:
- Top management alignment for Brown-Forman in a workshop on the Masai Mara plains in Kenya, Africa
- Clarifying roles and goals of executive teams for Givaudan-Roure while white water rafting in Bali, Indonesia and teambuilding in Shanghai, China
- Top to bottom organization alignment of Mead Johnson Philippines in a series of continuous management workshops over a two-year period
- Setting global strategy for the banking practice of Allen & Overy in London, England
- Integrating Japanese and Western work cultures for Nokia, Japan
- Facilitating annual strategic planning meetings for Mead Johnson International in Madrid, Paris and Vancouver
- Exploring growth initiatives with 7-Eleven and their top 10 worldwide licensees in Dallas, Texas
- Setting strategy and change programs for Van den Bergh Foods in Rotterdam
- Leadership training for KPMG partners and directors in Myanmar
- Executive coaching for The Limited country manager in Seoul, Korea
- Asia-Pacific annual strategy conference – “Body, Mind, Spirit,” for Cadbury Schweppes in Queenstown, New Zealand
- Partner & associate teambuilding for DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary (Asia-Pacific) in Shenzhen, China
- Restructuring and aligning roles & responsibilities for Nestle in Istanbul, Turkey
Larry combines business experience with a high energy approach. Most of his work involves multicultural senior management teams wrestling to align strategies across functions, business units and countries.
Larry has published in major newspapers - e.g., The Nation (Bangkok), Singapore Straits Times. He has appeared on CNBC and BBC as an expert in organization change. He has also conducted change workshops at the Yale School of Management, Chulalonkorn University, Mahidol University and Assumption University (Thailand).
Prior to setting up Chao Group Limited in Bangkok and New York, Larry was a strategy consultant with McKinsey & Company (New York/Cleveland, Ohio), an investment banker with First Boston (New York) and an organization change consultant with Andersen Consulting (New York). He also worked for two years as an internal organization change consultant with Unilever (Thailand)
Larry graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in psychology and an MBA.
